In Quito
Within the city of Quito and in the country’s most important cities, taking a bus is relatively easy; the number of units that come and go is continuous and fluid throughout the day between the hours of 06:00 and 22:00. To travel, one must simply stand in a bus stop and extend your hand towards the driver. Bus stops would be the ideal place to stop a bus, but in most cities you can just stop one anywhere in the street. If he doesn’t stop, don’t worry, the next one will.
There are two basic types of urban transportation within the city. The first one is the Integrated Transportation System (Trolebús and Ecovía), which is owned by the government. The second one is the Urban Bus System which is owned by private companies. In both systems, the fee is $0.25 for adults and $0.12 for people with disabilities, children, students and seniors. The Trolebús, in its extension to Calderón (neighbourhood at the outskirts of Quito), charges and extra $0.25 per trip. | |
