Cueva de los Tayos
Cueva de Los Tayos is a cavern located in the Cacapischo river, 3km away from El Chaco. The 40m deep and 50m high cave has been used by the native Jivaro Indians for a long time. The Jivaros descend using vines to collect fledgeling tayos (the nocturnal Steatornis caripensis). The cave was made famous by Erich von Daniken’s 1973 book The Gold of the Gods in which he states that Juan Moricz discovered artificial tunnels filled with valuable items created by a lost civilization with the help of extraterrestrial beings. | |
