The Volcano experience 1 Day | The Cotopaxi is the highest active volcano in the world. We can enjoy a day of horseback riding and hiking, and for the adventurous climb up to the first refugee at 4800 mts of altitude.
Located only one hour and a half from Quito, the Cotopaxi National Park provides an incredible opportunity to experience the Andean “Paramo” first hand. Enjoy a picnic in the Limpiopungo Lake located at 3850 mts of altitude, do some downhill biking in the volcano or horseback ride throughout the valley. Climbing is possible in two days, it is not considered to be a technical or difficult climb, but special equipment and acclimatization are required.
Our Cotopaxi tours start early in the morning, if the train line is up and running we will take one of the few trains still working in Ecuador up to El Boliche in the National Park. From there we will head to the parking lot located at 4300mts of altitude and hike up to the first shelter at 4800mts where we will enjoy a delicious cup of warm chocolate and head back to base. From there, we will visit the Limpiopungo lake either by car, or biking downhill. Here we can enjoy a delicious picnic, or head towards to one of the traditional haciendas around for a delicious lunch. In the hacienda we can enjoy a beautiful horseback ride for about two and a half hours, crossing the Andean paramo up to the skirts of the Rumiñahui.
