Alcohol
The national alcoholic drinks were mostly made out of sugar cane. In the highlands they are called “Puntas”, in the Amazon “Chicha” and in the Coast “Caña”. The only place that has commercialized this drink is the Coastal region, which bottles “Caña Manabita” and sold throughout the land.
These drinks should not be taken lightly, due to their high alcoholic content.
There is also every other common alcoholic beverage. You will find that you can buy alcohol almost anywhere throughout Ecuador, especially in “tiendas”. There is a wide variety of beer brands that you can try. Although Pilsener is most common in the highlands, Club may be the one along the coastline. As for other alcoholic beverages, Ecuadorian wine is definitely not something you want to experiment with.
Supermarkets carry the rest of alcoholic beverages known to man, from vodka to whiskey and everything in between. There are even some places rumoured to sell Absynth.
