Health and Security
Ecuador is a safe place to travel to. Nevertheless, you should consider the fact that you are travelling to a developing country, where in some rural areas access to hospitals and doctors is scarce. Also, like any other country in the world, there are some dangers and risks inherent to the big cities, like robbery, pick pocketing and assault.
Keep in mind the best alert you can have is your common sense. Whenever doubt strikes, go with the safe side and most conservative decisions. Try to take one step at a time. Even if your time is short, leave the risky stuff for the end. Ecuadorian people, for example, have better stomach tolerance than tourists, due to the fact that we are used to some food exposure during our everyday life. Basically, sometimes what we eat and drink may not necessarily make us ill, but a tourist may be more susceptible to some spices and cooking procedures. Also, we may be used to some mosquito bites and other kinds of allergies that foreigners may not, so always wear repellent and if you have an unfavourable reaction to any kind of bite or food, contact a physician as soon as possible. | |
