The Highland weather is variable but tending to be moderate at day and cold at night. However, if you are planning on spending time in the mountains or in the “paramo” you should consider that this places are rather cold all year long.



  A warm mountain jacket. It is usually very windy and the snow peaks of the Andes make this a really chilly place. Preferably a trekking jacket, waterproof and windproof with a hood.
  A hat, cap, or wool cap is recommended when travelling to high altitudes.
  Gloves.
  Comfortable shoes, preferably trekking shoes.
  Thick cotton socks, plenty to spare.
  Towels
  Bottled water.
  Some fruits if your tour operator doesn’t provide lunch.
  If you are camping, make sure your tour operator provides thermal isolation mats, sleeping bags and tents.
  Candy or any sweets to help you with height sickness.
  It is recommended to take height sickness pills 24 hours before travelling.
  Camera film, blank DVDs or Mini-DVs are really hard to find around these area, make sure to bring some with you.
  Female travellers: toilet paper, personal care items. When hiking, toilets are scarce so make sure to go before starting your trek.
  People with disabilities: It is best to travel with supervision, since handicap support is virtually non-existent. Consult your tour operator for special assistance.
  People with children: Be sure to dress your children accordingly. Talk to your tour operator for special location needs. In most of the hikes a baby trolley is difficult to operate. Take special care on height sickness.
  Senior tourists: Consult with your physician whether altitude can be a hazard for you. In high elevation your blood circulation constrains due to the lack of oxygen and pressure variation, people with heart conditions should consult a professional.
